Next I abstract a proton
And I got rid of my charge
Now I'm a hydroxyl attached to a carbon chain

I can react with formaldehyde
To create a primary alcohol
And also with aldehyde to create a secondary
I react with esters and ketones
To form tertiary alcohols
And I'll bet you a H or two that I can make you lose that proton and I'll be a base
