These songs were written and performed by students in Dr. Otto Phanstiel's Organic Chemistry I and II Classes, starting in 1999, and still singing.

"Can't Pass Organic Chemistry"

Nicholas Felts

Song: "She couldn't Change Me"

Artist: Montgomery-Gentry

I try to think what made me enroll into this course I've gotten into,
I wanted me a real good major, Med Lab Science was the thing to do,
But not two weeks after we started I knew I didn't have a clue,
Brought home two books as heavy as me, they cost a hundred dollars brand new,
I was sitting at my desk with a nervous twitch when they passed the test to me,
It was so damn hard that I couldn't believe.
My mind went blank I couldn't think of a thing,
Tried to think of reagents, I couldn't remember my name,
It's like a foreign language about something you never thought to study,
I can pass everything but Organic Chemistry.
I was sittin' at home studying alcohols when I drifted off to sleep,
Started dreaming about boiling points and Hydrogen Bonding,
In my dream I made ethanol by reducing acetaldehyde,
And I used a reagent, called Sodium borohydride,
I woke up feeling confident that I would pass with at least a C,
Now I'm even dreaming of Organic Chemistry.
My mind went blank I couldn't think of a thing,
Tried to think of reagents, I couldn't remember my name,
It's like a foreign language about something you never thought to study,
I can pass everything but Organic Chemistry.
