Chemistry Songs

Project Overview

These songs were written and performed by students in Dr. Otto Phanstiel's Organic Chemistry I and II Classes, starting in 1999, and still singing.

"Enamine and Imine In Acid"

Chung Tsen, Jeffrey Cummings, Kevin Munnerlyn, Kyle Kelly, Seth Trifiro, Marie M. Smith

Song: "Winter Wonderland"

Artist: Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith

Enamine and Imine
Can be oh so confusing
When R is an H
Attack with a base
And Nitrogen will get the electrons.

But when R is not an H
Then it'll yield an enamine
Alpha-Carbon is point of attack
And alpha-Carbon gets another bond.

Just when you don't have a base to attack with. . .
Invoking water is just easy a task.
Then respect all your arrow pushes. . .
And you shouldn't have a problem after that.

Repeat All

Enamine and Imine
Now it's not so confusing
When R is not an H
Carbon is atacked
And the product is an enamine.

Or the product that is imine.
