Chemistry Songs

Project Overview

These songs were written and performed by students in Dr. Otto Phanstiel's Organic Chemistry I and II Classes, starting in 1999, and still singing.

Song: "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"

Artist: Offspring

Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
And all the chemists say I'm pretty fly cause I'm sodamide
Uno dos tres cuatro cinco cinco seis

You know it's kinda hard to keep a bond today
We need all of our H's, but he takes them anyway
He may not be organic, and he may not have Phan-style
But he takes all our H's because he's a nucleophile

So you don't hate, Na+ will compensate
You know Na+ will balance it just great
If you want to get your yield, keep it real
It's a powerful base, so take the H+
So if you don't break, no Carbon bond can make
You know you can extend the chain for goodness sake.
The world needs chemistry
Hey, hey, use that sodamide!

Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh
And all the chemists say I'm pretty fly cause I'm sodamide

NH2 has some cool electrons, enough to make him charged
And when he takes his H+ he's living pretty large
Now cruising with his new bond, increased his acidity
And with his new H, he leaves as NH3!!!!!!
