Chemistry Songs

Project Overview

These songs were written and performed by students in Dr. Otto Phanstiel's Organic Chemistry I and II Classes, starting in 1999, and still singing.

"So Don't Forget Your Reagents!"

Jessica Roberts, Ashley Segura, Brenna Smith, Amanda Dillon, Renee White

Song: "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"

Artist: Cyndi Lauper

If you are given an alcohol compound Use PBr3 to make an alkyl bromide Using KOH will do the reverse

So don't forget your reagents O please remember them all.

Same starting place but you need carbonyl Use PCC then NaBH4 will reduce it. But if you simply need a longer chain Epoxides will get the job done.

So please remember:

That Anti-Markovnikov products Violate the rule "the rich get more and poor stay poor"

When you're cramming for that test O Don't forget your reagents. No you won't forget them now.

After this song You'll know those reagents For the test (At least we hope so)

If you need to make a carbon chain Without functional groups you need a Gilman reagent. But if that's not the case then Grignard's your pick.

And don't forget your reagents O please remember:

That a carbonyl reacts with Grignard. But a Gilman attacks an alkyl halide.

When you're cramming for that test O Don't forget your reagents. No you won't forget them now...
